Workspaces

Ok it is time to be honest today. I confess that I do all of my blog posts, from the comfort of my bed. I mean is there anything better than doing a little work, with comfy pillows around you, and a warm blanket on those chilly mornings. That being said, I would also love to have a space designated for work, projects, paperwork, and all those cute nick nacks. So here are some small office spaces that I found, that would probably make me get out of my bed, and work at a table. These images are from my dream home board on Pinterest.

Monday's Quote

I took this picture while I was in Auckland, New Zealand. It was a beautiful evening watching the ships sail and eating a lovely meal with old family friends.
Last night I watched the most amazing film called The Impossible. The movie was based on a true story about a family vacationing, when the 2004 tsunami hit. It was one of those films that you can't really put into words, because you are feeling so many different emotions at once. This morning I was left with thoughts of people's struggles around the world, the strength of the human spirit to forge ahead, and being thankful. We live our lives with struggles, some small, others bigger, but nothing really compares to when our worlds are shattered. It reminded me to be thankful for each and every day, thankful for healthy friends and family, and thankful for all the little things that I may take for granted. Appreciate your life for everything it is right now, because you never know when it can all get taken away.

Casual Friday

Jacket: Costa Blanca; Shirt: Charlotte Russe; Jeans: American Eagle; Bracelet: Charlotte Russe, Shoes: Forever 21
Happy Friday! Hope you all had a good week. It's been a couple of weeks since I did an actual outfit post, so I thought I would keep it casual with side braids and ripped jeans. Having rips in my jeans was never something that I gravitated to while making a skinny jeans purchase. I guess my mom was always in my the back of my head saying, "why would you pay money for jeans that have holes in them?" But having at least one pair of ripped jeans in your closet, can be a fun way to show some character in your outfit, while keeping it casual. What are your thoughts on ripped jeans?

Road trip through Chile

While in Chile I had the immense pleasure of doing a road trip to a couple of places, with the most lovely family. Playing car games, stopping for empanadas, browsing through chilean crafts, tasting some pisco and seeing the beautiful scenery reminded me why going on a road trip can be so much fun. We went from Vina del Mar to La Serena and when I wasn't napping, (ok I napped a lot on our way there) I snapped these pictures of the stunning views. Even though the sights in Chile of wineries, deserts and lakes were beautiful (as you can see below), the company I was with was even better.

Black and Blue

Black and Blue

A striped black and white top paired with navy skirt is a classic outfit. When you throw a leather jacket into to the mix, that's when you take a classic outfit to a whole new modern level. I love the idea of mixing feminine outfits with edgier pieces. Add a few touches of colour in your accessories, like a bright nail polish or a cute handbag and you are ready for the day.

Book: Safe Haven

We all know that Nicholas Sparks has an amazing way of writing a story, that is not only well written but also pulls at your heart strings. While reading this book I went through a roller coaster of emotions. I was happy, sad, angry, frustrated and I think at times I caught myself holding my breath to see what was coming next. This book is an amazing read, full of surprises that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Safe Haven is about a mysterious woman named Katie, who moves into a quiet town in North Carolina. While she tries to keep a low profile she starts to build strong relationships with her neighbour Jo, and she soon becomes involved with Alex, a widowed man with two children. As she starts to fall in love, and build a new life, she continues to look over her shoulder as she has dark secret that looms over her. A secret so haunting, that made Katie flee across the the country. Will Katie ever be able to find peace and love with a past that continues to follow her? You will have to read this book to find out.

My Favourite Quotes:

"He knew he should say something witty, something charming to break the tension, but instead he found himself thinking, I'm in trouble. Serious trouble."

"Everyone has a past, but that's just it- it's in the past. You can learn from it, but you can't change it."

"Maybe I don't want to be defined by what I do. Maybe I'd like to be defined by what I am."

"..nothing wonderful lasted forever. Joy was as fleeting as a shooting star that crossed the evening sky, ready to blink out at any moment."

"I truly believe that while love can hurt, love can also heal..."

"It's never to late to do the right thing."

"Every couple needs to argue now and then. Just to prove that the relationship is strong enough to survive. Long-term relationships, the ones that matter, are all about weathering the peaks and the valleys."

Chocolate Bacon Cupcakes

After making my first Chocolate Cake a few weeks ago, I wanted to continue experimenting with some other chocolate recipes. Enter in the amazing idea of mixing chocolate and bacon, that some genius chef conjured up, and turning it into a delectable treat. I love idea of mixing sweet and salty ingredients so I thought I would try to make this. The end result was delicious, even though I have probably gained a few pounds eating them. Here is the recipe!

How to make Chocolate Bacon Cupcakes

Ingredients:

12 slices of bacon
2 cups of flour
3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups of sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup of cold coffee
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Put cupcake lines into your cupcake tray (I used a mini cupcake tray).
3. In a heated pan cook the bacon until it is brown. Once they are cooled crumble them into
    small pieces.
4. In a bowl mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
5. Add the eggs, coffee, buttermilk and oil and whisk until everything is blended.
6. Add 3/4 of the crumbled bacon into the cupcake mixture.
7. Scoop the batter into your prepared cupcake pan.
8. Bake for 15-20 min.
9. Cool the cupcakes and then decorate with your favourite icing.  Sprinkle the remaining
crumbles of bacon on top. I also saved some of the bacon drippings and drizzled it on the top.

Enjoy!

Winter Hats

Winter Hats

As winter is in full swing, a warm hat should be a staple in every wardrobe. I knew I was going to be heading home to some cooler weather while I was in Chile, so I found my winter hat while wandering through a Chilean market. You can check out my purchases here and here. Printed hats have been a big trend this season, and here are 4 of my favourites. Not only will these winter hats keep you warm, but you will look stylish doing so.

2012 in Review

Happy New Year Everyone! As we start off today in a new year I decided to go back and recap what happened in 2012. It was one of the best years, but also one of the hardest years, as I lost my best friend Rahul. Losing him has been one of the hardest things deal with, but it has also reminded me not to take life for granted. Be spontaneous, travel, spend time with friends and family, slow down and appreciate the little things, help people in need, be patient, relax and do things that you love to do.

2012 was full of big highlights in my life, like graduating, starting up this blog, and travelling. In the last couple of years I have given myself a goal of exploring different parts of the world. To be specific I try and travel to at least 3 different places a year. This year I did even better than that and visited 4 countries: Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and Chile. It was amazing to see and experience so many different types of food, culture and meet so many wonderful people who opened their homes to me.

Now that we have survived 2012, I am excited to see what kind of crazy adventure 2013 will bring.
